    This course aims to provide a foundation in the use of Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) when working at height. It also aims to give an insight to the safe use and requirements of PFPE for supervisors as well as providing delegates with an awareness of the use of PFPE and an awareness of BS8437: 2005.

     
    Upon successful completion of the course delegates will have an understanding of the use, selection and maintenance of personal fall protection equipment and systems.

    This course is theory based and a prerequisite for specified practical training. 

    This distance learning course is delivered through fully interactive instructor-led online sessions that are as engaging and informative as being in the classroom. Also available as a half-day tutor led course, please click here.

    This course covers: 

    • Understand the legislation surrounding work at height and how this relates to them
    • Understand the categories for safe work at height and the potential loads imposed on the equipment used: Work Restraint, Work Position, Fall Arrest
    • Understand equipment standards and how they relate to user demands and their expectations
    • Be able to carry out and understand the importance of pre-use inspections and checks
    • Understand the importance of mandatory inspection and record keeping by an impartial competent person
    • Understand the implications of being suspended in a harness and the importance of rescue provision when working at height
    • Have an awareness of the planning and selection of methods of work at height
    • Have an understanding of the guidance given in the HSE notice regarding using of harnesses in MEWP’s (MISC614)
    • Be able to plan and select the correct equipment for a given task
    • Have an awareness of hazards related to work at height

    Who is this course for?

    This course is suitable for delegates involved in work at height where Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) is used, as well as those responsible for overseeing these activities.

    It may be suitable for:
    • Operatives and technicians working at height
    • Maintenance and facilities personnel 
    • Engineers and installation teams 
    • Construction and industrial workers
    • Supervisors and managers responsible for work at height activities
    • Anyone involved in the selection, use or monitoring of PFPE 

    Delegates may work across of range of sectors including construction, manufacturing, utilities, facilities management, telecommunications, warehousing, and other industries where working at height forms part of daily activities. 

    Entry Requirements

    Before attending, delegates should ensure they meet the following requirements:

    • Delegates must be aged 18 years or over
    • Delegates must have access to their own laptop or PC with a working webcam
    • Delegates must be able to communicate with the trainer using a microphone or platform chat 

    Failure to meet these requirements may result in removal from the course.

    As this theory course is a prerequisite for practical training, delegates must have a suitable understanding of written and spoken English, and be physically able to take part in practical activities.     How the Training Works

    This is a theory-based course delivered online (using Zoom) with one of our experienced trainers. The course provides knowledge and awareness of PFPE and is a prerequisite for practical training.

    Q7. What equipment do I need to join the course?
    Delegates must use a laptop or PC with a working webcam and audio. Cameras should remain on during the course and assessment.     At the end of the course, delegates will receive a link to an online assessment by email and in the webinar chat. The assessment consists of 20 multiple-choice questions.

    Delegates who successfully complete the course will receive a digital certificate of attendance valid for three years.
